SQID Taskforce Workshop: A Day of Collaboration and Progress

Published: Feb 14, 2025

The Stormwater Quality Improvement Device (SQID) Taskforce recently held a highly productive workshop, marking a significant step forward in our mission to enhance SQID approval and management. It was inspiring to see such strong engagement from committee members who traveled from across Australia and New Zealand, including Brisbane, Tasmania, and beyond.

We were honoured to be joined by Cath Thrupp, President of Stormwater Australia, and Bryan Ward, Executive Officer, who provided valuable updates on the SQIDEP program. Their insights were instrumental in setting the stage for our discussions.

A key highlight of the day was the adoption of our shared purpose: “Help SQIDs be better SQIDS.” This rallying cry encapsulates our commitment to improving these devices and the processes surrounding them.

Following these insightful presentations, the taskforce divided into two subcommittees. These groups are now focused on developing detailed project plans, identifying key deliverables, and establishing their specific approaches to tackling the challenges within the SQID landscape. The subcommittees will continue to refine these plans in the coming weeks.

It was truly encouraging to witness the industry come together with a shared vision. Representatives from regulatory bodies, councils, product providers, consultants, and maintenance providers all contributed their unique perspectives, fostering a collaborative environment where the industry’s best interests took precedence.

This cross-industry approach ensures that we consider all facets of SQID management and approval, resulting in a more comprehensive and effective outcome. Once the subcommittees compile their findings and recommendations, these will be shared with the broader industry, ensuring transparency and continued engagement.

The SQID Taskforce is excited about the progress made and the ongoing work of the subcommittees. We are confident that our collaborative efforts will lead to meaningful improvements in the SQID landscape. Stay tuned for further updates as we continue this important work.
