SQID Industry Newsletter April 2025

Published: Apr 15, 2025

We are pleased to inform you that the NSW Stormwater Quality Improvement Device (SQID) Taskforce kicked off in February this year. The Taskforce consists of 21 industry stakeholders who were appointed after an EOI process. The process was instigated by Blacktown City Council with the support of Stormwater NSW. Stormwater 2030 is providing support services.

The purpose of this Taskforce is to come together to identify key issues and gaps with regards to the approval and ongoing management of SQIDs in the industry.

The Taskforce will not identify and address every gap in the current management of SQIDs nor will this Taskforce be attempting to replicate or replace the current Stormwater Quality Improvement Device Evaluation Protocol (SQIDEP) run by Stormwater Australia.

Instead, this Taskforce seeks to provide support and recommendations to decision makers and Stormwater Australia, on behalf of the NSW Stormwater industry.

The goal of the Taskforce is to provide recommendations to improve the stormwater industry across a range of SQID-related issues including performance evaluation, lifecycle assessment, maintenance, constructability and safety.  We aim to provide the industry with tools that provide meaningful and consistent information to help inform decisions regarding approval and management of these devices.

Over the course of the year, we will come to you seeking input and feedback on the work of the Taskforce. It is important we get feedback from a range of stakeholders with different interactions with SQIDs.

One of the key deliverables we have started to focus on this year is to develop practical criteria for the lifecycle assessment and safety assessment of SQIDs. We are currently seeking feedback from the industry on what factors are most valuable with regards to lifecycle and safety assessment.

To provide feedback please provide input to this survey. This survey closes Monday 28 April 2025.

We are expecting to release the full project plan latter this week. This will contain the proposed deliverables and schedule.  To remain informed of the work of the SQID Taskforce including future opportunities for feedback keep an eye out for the Stormwater NSW newsletter or visit the SQID Taskforce Website.
