We are thrilled to announce the release of the Stormwater 2030 2025 Annual Report, a landmark document that not only reflects on our journey but also sets an ambitious course for the future of stormwater management in New South Wales. This report is a testament to our commitment to achieving excellence for our environment and our community.
Our overarching vision is clear: to transform stormwater management in NSW over five years, ultimately delivering World Class Beaches, World Class Harbours, and World Class Rivers. This vision drives every initiative and partnership we undertake, striving for cleaner waterways, reduced flooding, and enhanced environmental outcomes.
This transformative journey is guided by three powerful principles: “Cleaner Waterways. Stronger Communities. Shared Responsibility.”. These principles underscore that the health of our waterways is a collective responsibility, requiring unified effort across all sectors.
David Nixon, Chair of Stormwater 2030, encapsulates our drive, stating, “Stormwater 2030 is reimagining how stormwater is managed across NSW. Through innovation and collaboration, we are building a resilient future with world-class beaches, harbours, and rivers that deliver better outcomes for our communities and environment”. He further emphasizes the urgency and potential, asserting that “The future of our rivers, harbours, and beaches depends on what we do today. By 2030, NSW can lead the world in stormwater management – delivering cleaner waterways, greater resilience, and thriving communities”.
Colan Chin, our Executive Director, acknowledges the complexity of the sector but highlights significant progress: “While challenges in transforming a complex and fragmented sector remain, our achievements to date signal a powerful shift toward a more united, sustainable, and effective stormwater management future”. Stormwater 2030 was established in 2024 as an independent cross-sector initiative precisely because existing approaches were no longer meeting the critical needs of our communities and the environment. Our early efforts have focused on comprehensive listening and gathering insights to inform meaningful change.
We invite you to explore the full Annual Report to grasp the breadth of our vision and the strategic framework driving us towards a brighter, cleaner future for NSW.
